The Nederlands Pluimveemuseum (The Dutch Poultry Museum) is in Barneveld. This unique museum explores the fascinating story of ‘the chicken and the egg’ in a modern, hands-on fashion. It shows how poultry rearing has developed from traditional little chicken coops to modern, animal-friendly forms of poultry housing. Take a look at the antique incubators, one of which is still in use, and follow a chick as it hatches. You can even pick up the fluffy chicks too!
The Poultry Museum also has a traditional auction hall with a 1930s’ interior, where eggs and items from the museum shop are auctioned off. Take part in an auction by pressing the button on the authentic auction clock at just right moment to buy a box of eggs, a bottle of advocaat or a souvenir.
